Drawing and Creative Expression

Monday, 6:30 to 9:30pm (10 wks) starts Sept. 25


This course is designed to give students a basic foundation in the theory, practice and techniques of drawing. They will learn the skills to express themselves visually through mark-making and will experiment with various materials and techniques. A series of hands-on projects will include drawing still life from observation, the basics of linear perspective, drawing the human figure and working from visual memory. The lecture component of the class will focus on the role of drawing in art history – from study for underpainting to contemporary artworks; notions of drawing elements such as line, space, form and composition; an introduction to colour theory and the basics of perspective drawing.
